House plants take as much care of us as we do of them - they absorb some harmful substances from the air and collect a lot of dust on their leaves when they breathe. From time to time it is important to clean up this pollution. Some people use special products for this purpose. But not all of them are not only useful, but even safe. The best way to care for the leaves is to use only soft settled room temperature water. However, sometimes it is not enough.

OBOZREVATEL gathered a few tips on how to wipe leaves from dust and stains indoor plants. These tools will improve their condition and make greenery shinier.

Vinegar

Many houseplants respond well not only to a slightly acidic soil composition, but also to acidic leaf rubs. The main condition - the solution must be very weak, so as not to damage the leaf plate. So you can use ordinary food vinegar. It should be diluted in the proportion of 1 tablespoon per 3 liters of water. This liquid is lightly dampened with a microfiber cloth and gently wipe each leaf, avoiding its excessive moisture. In doing so, support the leaf from underneath so as not to damage it. It is important to choose a lint-free cloth so as not to leave excessive fine particles on the surface of the leaf.

Citric Acid

Where vinegar is suitable, you can also use citric acid. It should be diluted in soft settled water in the proportion of a few grams per liter of water. The solution should be very weak. And it is important to make sure that the remedy is completely dissolved. If the slightest pellet of acid gets on the leaf, it can burn it.

Amber acid

This substance can also be used to care for the leaves of houseplants. But, as with the previous recipes, it is important here not to overdo it. It is better to take less than to overdo it. One tablet per liter of water will be more than enough. But it is also important to dissolve the remedy completely in water.

Soapy water

Only all-natural types of soap, such as Castile soap, should be used for this method. A small amount of soap should be dissolved in water, and then this solution should be used to wipe the leaves on both sides. The advantage of soap "bathing" for plants is that soap kills insect pests, their eggs and larvae. But regular treatment with soap is not recommended. It is used only to save heavily soiled leaves.

Homemade neem oil polish

The oil of the Asian neem plant not only makes the leaves shiny, but also prevents mold from developing on the leaves and scares away insect pests with its scent. You can buy a ready-made polish with neem oil, or you can make it yourself. Just mix 1 teaspoon of clarified product with 750 ml of water in a spray bottle and shake the liquid thoroughly to get an emulsion. You should use such a polish very carefully, just a few drops on a cloth, because an excessive amount of oil can clog the respiratory pores of the leaf. Therefore, this product is used infrequently and in small quantities. To enhance the protective properties of the polish, you can add a tablespoon of natural Castile soap to it. In this case it will be even more effective against pests. Only plants with smooth, lint-free leaves can be treated with the product.
