What to feed strawberries with in spring to grow big berries

Strawberry season is always a happy time for a summer house resident, especially if you manage to grow large, sweet and juicy berries. They will be worse than those on the store shelf. Moreover, it is not so difficult to do it on your own plot.

Experts say that the rules for growing berries are quite simple, and the results are impressive. OBOZ.UA has collected the main ones.

Change the bed in time

Strawberries should not be grown in one place for more than four years in a row. It depletes the soil, making the berries small and sour and the harvest poor.

Water in moderation

For strawberries to grow large, the plant must receive enough moisture during flowering and ovary formation. The soil should not be allowed to dry out and should also be covered with mulch to retain moisture. When the berries begin to ripen, watering should be slightly reduced to prevent them from growing watery.

Protect against insects

The main pests of strawberries are weevils and spider mites. They can completely destroy the crop before it has time to ripen. To protect the berry from these insects, it is important to loosen the soil in the garden in time, add ash to it, treat the plant with Bordeaux liquid, and apply appropriate chemicals.

Provide enough nutrients

To prepare a nutrient liquid for strawberries, dissolve a teaspoon each of boric acid and potassium permanganate, 2 tablespoons of ammonia, and a few drops of iodine in a third of a bucket of clean, warm water. The resulting concentrate is diluted with a bucket of water and poured over the strawberries at the rate of 300-400 ml per bush.
