What ancient people looked like thousands of years ago

People have always been interested in their origins and what their ancestors looked like. Thanks to archaeological finds and research, we can imagine what ancient people looked like and how they differ from modern ones.

Ancient people were very similar to us, so if you saw them, you would certainly realize that you are looking at your evolutionarily ancient version. OBOZ.UA has collected a selection of photos for you to see for yourself.

Despite the similarities, there were several notable differences between ancient humans and us. For example, all of them, except Neanderthals, had smaller skulls. Their heads were often elongated, with wide noses and large nostrils.

In addition, most ancient people had incredibly strong jaws.

Ancient people were shorter and had a stronger build. This was due to their lifestyle, which included constant physical activity.

The shortest species of our ancestors, Homo floresiensis, was on average only about 106 centimeters tall.

However, humanity still does not have enough fossil material to reconstruct the appearance of ancient people properly and in detail.

For example, scientists have found only the teeth, finger bones, and half of the lower jaw of Denisovan man. Not surprisingly, this is not enough to recreate the face in detail.

Scientists hope that more fossils will be found in the near future, which will allow us to update our understanding of what our ancestors looked like.
