"We expect Beijing to use its influence on Moscow": Foreign Ministry reacts to Chinese leader's visit to Russia
Ukraine expects that during his visit to the aggressor country of Russia, Chinese President Xi Jinping will use his influence on Moscow to force it to end its aggressive war against Ukraine. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry noted that it continues to closely monitor Xi's visit to Russia.
The ministry also stressed that the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity should be at the centre of all diplomatic efforts. This was stated in a comment to OBOZREVATEL by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Oleh Nikolenko.
According to him, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, in a telephone conversation with his Chinese colleague last week, stressed that all diplomatic efforts should be directed at forcing Russia to stop its aggression and restore the territorial integrity of our country.
"Ukraine is closely following the visit of the Chinese President to Russia. We expect Beijing to use its influence on Moscow to force it to end its aggressive war against Ukraine," Nikolenko said.
In addition, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stressed that it is ready for a closer dialogue with China to restore peace in Ukraine in accordance with the principles enshrined in the UN Charter and the latest UN General Assembly resolution on this issue.
Recall that Chinese leader Xi Jinping arrived in Moscow on March 20 to meet with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. The plane with the Chinese president landed at Moscow's Vnukovo airport at around 11 a.m. The meeting will begin on March 21, at around 15:30 Moscow time.
Earlier it was reported that immediately after arriving in Russia, Xi spoke of a "new impetus" in relations with the aggressor country. He expressed confidence that his visit would be fruitful.
Meanwhile, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) suggested that the Chinese leader would meet with the head of the terrorist state Putin to discuss schemes to evade sanctions and China's participation in negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.
The Kremlin said that during the talks between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, they will discuss, among other things, Russia's war against Ukraine and China's proposal for a "peaceful settlement". This topic is considered "inevitable" in the Kremlin.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the White House said that Russia and China want to disrupt the world order established after World War II. According to US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, the US will be closely watching what comes out of the "highly publicised meetings" between Chinese President Xi Jinping and dictator Vladimir Putin this week in Moscow.
