Germany hands over Dachs armoured tanks to the Ukrainian Armed Forces

The German government has handed over a new package of military aid to Ukraine, which is fighting a full-scale invasion by the aggressor country Russia. In particular, Berlin for the first time transferred Dachs engineer tanks to the Ukrainian army.

This was reported on Friday, March 24, on the website of the German government. As noted, the AFU received three units of this military equipment.

In addition, Berlin handed over 70 M-G3 machine guns for Leopard 2 tanks, Marder and Dachs infantry fighting vehicles. Ukraine's defenders also received 30 sensors to detect enemy drones.

As noted, the drone detection systems and Dachs were supplied by industry, while everything else came from the Bundeswehr's stocks.

It is noted that the total value of individual licences issued by the German government for the export of military goods to Ukraine in the period from January 1, 2022 to March 20, 2023 is more than €2.7 billion.

The Dachs is an engineering tank based on the Leopard 1. It has a hydraulic excavator boom and a powerful bulldozer blade. The main tasks of this equipment are to clear roads of debris, clear areas, dig trenches.

 
 

The vehicle's crew consists of three men: the driver, the commander and his assistant. For protection the tank is equipped with 35 mm armor, two smoke grenade launchers and MG3 machine gun.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that German Marder infantry fighting vehicles are already on their way to Ukraine. In total, Germany promised to supply 40 such IFVs.
