Turkey stops servicing Russian aircraft at the request of the United States: even refuelling is prohibited
The Department of Customs and Trade has banned the maintenance of Russian and Belarusian aircraft if they have at least 25% of their components from the United States. The decision was made at the request of the US Department of Commerce's Industry and Security Administration.
The decision will affect the aircraft of Aeroflot, AZUR Air, Belavia, PEGAS Fly, Rossiya, S7 Airlines, UTAIR, YAMAL, and MAHAN, according to the publication Aitrort haber. Since March 14, various services have been suspended for Russian-Belarusian aircraft that are at least partially manufactured in the United States.
"In this context, private, cargo, commercial, charter aircraft or aircraft manufactured in any foreign country and containing more than 25 per cent of raw materials of American origin are prohibited from refuelling and providing related services if they are en route to Russia and Belarus," the article says.
The decision was made in response to a letter from the US Department of Commerce's Industry and Security Administration regarding export practices. Here are the banned aircraft:
Since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, Russian aviation has faced a number of problems. For example, to replace broken parts, part of the fleet has to be dismantled for spare parts. But the main thing is that due to sanctions, Russia has been cut off from updating international route maps, which makes landing unsafe.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the world's largest airline, AerCap Holdings, has lost 113 aircraft. Russia confiscated them in response to sanctions over the war in Ukraine.
