Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has held a private meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu. Following the meeting, he said that the UN had prepared a new proposal for Russia on a grain deal that could restore maritime exports of grain from Ukraine.

This is reported by the Anadolu publication. Thus, Fidan also met with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov to discuss bilateral relations and regional issues, particularly the grain export deal from Ukraine.

"Thanks to our country's intensive efforts and contributions, the UN has prepared a new package of proposals. We think this will be a suitable basis for reviving the initiative," Fidan said at a press conference with Lavrov.

Ukrainian farmers have faced serious problems after Russia pulled out of the grain agreement and launched massive attacks on Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea. Alternative export routes have proved too expensive for many businesses, and now agrarians do not know how to sell their produce. This could leave the grain harvest from such farms to rot in warehouses or even in the fields.

This situation is already causing Ukrainian farmers to reduce their crops, analysts say. This year, the amount of corn and wheat in the fields has fallen by almost 40% compared to pre-war levels. The lives of people in starving countries depend on Ukrainian food.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, Turkey called for restoring the grain agreement. They are sure that the Danube ports will not be able to replace the Black Sea in terms of food exports, because of which China and Africa will not get enough grain.
