Things that make an apartment cheaper: what guests immediately notice

You can't hide the radiator, and the bright furniture looks very old-fashioned

It's always nice to think through the interior of your home to the smallest detail, carefully decorate everything and move into that dream home. But some details can spoil even a designer renovation and then hurt the eyes of both the owners and guests. These are items that make the furnishings look cheaper. It's as if they saved a lot on work and materials, even if they didn't.

OBOZREVATEL talks about these items. And advises how to remedy the situation.

Heating radiators

This absolutely indispensable element of the life support system at home is a nightmare for designers. It is not so easy to hide radiators, it is absolutely impossible to do without them in our climate, and beautiful design options cost like an aeroplane wing. The easiest way to "dissolve" the battery in space is to paint it the same colour as the walls of the house. Then they will simply merge with the background and will not catch the eye.

Brightly coloured furniture

While a "cheerful" wardrobe or bed in a child's room will still look appropriate, it is not the best choice in the kitchen, for example, or in an adult bedroom. This is because bright colours can get boring quickly. Plus, people began to get carried away with a riot of colours in the early 1990s, when they got access to more or less high-quality furniture and custom-made furniture. And they overdid it very quickly. That's why today it all looks very old-fashioned and cheap. And from the point of view of colour psychology, it can be annoying and stressful. Experienced designers advise choosing furniture in basic colours or muted, powdery shades. You can add brightness to the atmosphere with accessories, decor, crockery or textiles.

Plastic surfaces

Window sills, countertops, as well as doors and skirting boards made of plastic are quite durable and inexpensive. And it is this material that lets you down. It looks just right for its price. The easiest way to solve the problem is to plaster the plastic and paint it in the colour of the walls. It is also possible to cover the plastic itself with paint. But this is a rather complicated and multi-stage job. Although the results look pretty decent.

Glossy ceiling

Someone once thought that the gloss of the ceiling, which reflects the room, would work in much the same way as a mirror - expanding the space and making the room visually larger. And a fashion for such a finish appeared. But it quickly became clear how bad an idea it was. To install a mirror in such a way that it enlarges the room, rather than visually multiplying the clutter, you need to think carefully about its location. It won't work with the ceiling - you can't move it. It will reflect everything. Moreover, from a very uncomfortable angle. Glare from the window and lighting will look very strange. Therefore, it is better to choose a matte or satin version.

Cheap fittings

When you look at how much the renovation budget increases due to such items as sockets, switches, door handles, hooks and other fittings, you sometimes despair and want to just buy something inexpensive. The problem is that you will have to replace this inexpensive item very soon - the white plastic will turn yellow, the metal finish will wear off, and internal parts will fail. And all this will be in plain sight. Therefore, it is better to look for a reasonable balance.
