The simplest way to clean oven grates: you won't need to scrub

Cleaning oven racks is not an easy task, and the reason for this is their size. You can't really put them in the dishwasher. They simply won't fit. As a rule, this device does not fit in the kitchen sink either. But it's important to clean the oven regularly because food residue sticks to its walls and shelves on a regular basis.

TikTok blogger and cleaning expert Caroline McCauley explains how to do it properly and safely. Her method is frictionless and has the added benefit of helping you clean more than just the oven rack. (Watch the video to the end of the news story)

So, to use Karolina's life hack, take the racks out of the oven and place them where they can be soaked - in the bathroom or on the shower tray. Next, close the drain, place a few dishwashing capsules in the bottom, and run as much water as possible to cover the racks.

Leave the items in this state for about three hours. During this time, the dishwashing tablets should dissolve in the water and work on the dirt on the racks. All that remains at the end is to easily remove the remaining dirt with a sponge and rinse well under running water. When the grilles are dry, they can be reinstalled.

It is better not to drain the water after such cleaning. You can also use the same soapy water to rinse your bathtub or shower. After that, it will be thoroughly rinsed off, and the plumbing will also shine clean.

A few additional tips for cleaning oven racks in the bathroom

• Before placing the racks in the oven to soak, place slip mats or a large towel on the bottom. This way, you won't scratch the inside of the tub.
• For faster soaking and easier rinsing, it is better to remove thick soot mechanically before you put the grids in the soapy water. This will also prevent the sewer pipes from becoming clogged with large pieces of grease.
• Soak the racks after every 2-3 uses of the oven. This way, you will use less detergent, and you can reduce the soaking time itself. Regular cleaning is always easier and faster than general cleaning.
