The head coach of the Ukrainian national football team is fighting the occupiers in Bakhmut
The legendary Ukrainian footballer, head coach of the Ukrainian U-16 football team and Ruslan Rotan's assistant at Oleksandriya, Volodymyr Yezerskyi, wearing an Armed Forces uniform and armed with weapons, is fighting against the occupiers in the Donetsk sector. The photos of the 46-year-old Lviv resident from Bakhmut were posted by former Dynamo and Dnipro goalkeeper Sviatoslav Syrota and journalist Mykyta Dmytrulin.
"Volodymyr Ivanovych was not satisfied with his life near Kyiv, so he came to fight in Bakhmut," commented AgroBusiness President Oleg Sobutskyy, who also serves in the Armed Forces, with a smile.
Sobutskyy added that Yezerskiy has been at war since the first days. He is now on a contract in the Armed Forces.
"He was with us at the very front line. He is a good soldier. He has nerves of steel and character. He helped us solve various issues," Sobutskyy told the Sport Arena YouTube channel.
Volodymyr Yezerskiy is a product of Lviv football. He played 39 matches for the Ukrainian national team. He made his debut in the yellow and blue uniform of the national team on July 15, 1998 in a match against Poland. At the 2006 FIFA World Cup, he reached the 1/4 finals with the national team.
The dawn of his career as a footballer was in 2001-2007. During this time, he played 146 matches for Dnipro, scoring 12 goals. He is a three-time Ukrainian champion with Dynamo (1999) and Shakhtar (2008, 2010).
