Space "cotton"! What happens if a 500-metre asteroid hits the Kremlin
A website has been launched that allows online simulations of an asteroid hitting anywhere on planet Earth. The simulation shows the consequences of the explosion, including the size and depth of the crater, the estimated number of deaths, the size of the fireball that will form after the collision, as well as the distance over which the sound wave will spread, and other data.
The author of the site is programmer Neаl Agarwal, who used a significant amount of scientific data to turn the asteroid launch toy into a scary but fairly accurate forecast of a possible catastrophe. On the second day after the site was launched, Agarwal reported that an average of 25 asteroids were launched every second.
Ukrainians have always been a peace-loving nation, but the bloody war unleashed by the Russians has awakened in us a deep desire to ask the universe for karmic revenge against Russia for all its crimes. OBOZREVATEL offers to see what would happen if a 500-metre asteroid fell in the centre of Moscow, the capital of the aggressor country.
So, for the simulation, we will choose a stone asteroid with a size of 500 metres that will collide with the Earth's surface at a speed of 17 kilometres per hour. The angle of impact will be 45 degrees. The point of impact will be the Kremlin, the official residence of the aggressor President Vladimir Putin.
As a result of such a collision, a crater would be formed on the site of Moscow, with a diameter of 7.5 km and a depth of 540 m.
The impact would be equivalent to 6 gigatons of TNT.
It is estimated that 392,463 people will die immediately.
Following the collision, a fireball will form, with a diameter of 12 kilometres. The fire will cover about 70% of the Moscow region, and more than 7.8 million people will die. More than 108,000 people will suffer third-degree burns and more than 242,000 will suffer second-degree burns.
All trees within 99 kilometres of the point of contact will be in flames.
The collision would generate a shock wave of 242 decibels, killing more than 4.2 million people on the spot.
Those within a 35-km radius will likely suffer lung damage, and all people within a 46-km zone will suffer ruptured eardrums.
All buildings within a 79-km radius would be destroyed, and private homes within a 106-km radius would be destroyed.
Winds in the affected area will reach 4 km per second and kill about 1.5 million people. All buildings within a 39 km radius will be levelled to the ground, and all trees within a 114 km radius will be uprooted.
The catastrophe will be crowned by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake, which will kill nearly 10,000 more people. The entire Moscow region and neighbouring regions of the Russian Federation will feel its effects. At a distance of up to 201 km, there will be a 5.0 magnitude earthquake.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL, earlier it was reported that astronomers discovered a 1.5-kilometer asteroid, which had not been previously seen, as it was hidden in the Sun's glow. It is assumed that in the future its orbit may intersect with the Earth's orbit.
