A 40-year-old rescuer Ruslan Koshovy has been farewelled in Kyiv. He died at the airfield in Hostomel, Kyiv region, on the first day of the full-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

A farewell ceremony for a 40-year-old rescuer Ruslan Koshovy was held in Kyiv on Friday, September 8. He was the head of the State Fire and Rescue Unit No. 30 based at the Antonov Airfield in Hostomel. The man died on February 24, 2022, when rescuing his subordinates and equipment.

On that day, Russian invaders shot the fire truck carrying Ruslan and two other rescuers. Koshovy's body was not allowed to be taken away by the occupants at that time. He was not found after the de-occupation of Hostomel. Only now there is an opportunity to bury the rescuer.

Ruslan Koshovy was posthumously awarded the title of Colonel of the Civil Protection Service and the Order For Courage III degree. A motorboat of the Civil Emergency Service was named after him, with the help of which his colleagues can continue his work.

"Koshovy became the first firefighter killed at the beginning of the invasion. A total of 80 firefighters died," the acting chairman of the State Emergency Situations Service Volodymyr Demchuk said.

He was farewelled to the sound of fire sirens. He will be buried at the Berkovets cemetery.
