Ranking of the Happiest Countries in 2023: where does Ukraine stand?

Every year, the United Nations publishes a report and ranking on global happiness called the World Happiness Report. It is based on data from a global survey of people in more than 150 countries, who are then ranked by their level of happiness based on their average life assessment over the previous three years, in this case from 2020 to 2022.

For the sixth year in a row, according to the World Happiness Report, Finland is the happiest country in the world. Ukraine was ranked 92nd in 2023.

Interestingly, despite the devastating and deadly full-scale war, this is not the lowest score in our country. After the annexation of Crimea in 2014, Ukraine was 123rd in the Happiest Countries ranking.

"Despite the scale of suffering and damage in Ukraine, life scores in September 2022 remained higher than after the 2014 annexation, supported by a now stronger sense of common purpose, goodwill and trust in the Ukrainian leadership," the report said.

Meanwhile, the terrorist state of Russia was ranked 70th on the list. The report mentions that Russians have increased their confidence in their government over the past year, while Ukrainian support for Russia's leadership has fallen to zero.

Afghanistan is at the very bottom of the list (137th place), while Lebanon is one step up (136th place).

As for the leaders of the list, Lithuania unexpectedly broke into the top 20. Back in 2017, it was ranked 57th in the ranking, but every year it has been steadily moving up the rankings.
