New trains will be launched from Poland and the Czech Republic to Ukraine, - the head of UZ
In October, the Polish private railway company SKPL will start operating flights from Rava-Ruska to Warsaw. At the same time, the largest private rail passenger carrier in Central Europe, RegioJet (Czech Republic), will launch a Chop-Prague flight in November.
This was stated by Yevhen Lyashchenko, CEO of Ukrzaliznytsia (UZ), in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine. He clarified that foreign carriers were allowed to operate on the European route because UZ does not have enough rolling stock to carry out passenger transportation of this format.
"The connection (Rava-Ruska - Lviv with the Polish company SKPL - Ed.) will be launched in October this year. This will be the first experience of cooperation between UZ and a European company on the passenger route. RegioJet will not have time to launch by then. They will start operating Chop-Prague flights around November. But this will also happen by the end of 2023. With RegioJet, we have two projects on the way out: Chop-Prague and Przemysl-Berlin-Hanover flights," Lyashchenko said.
The head of the company added that a European passenger company UZ may be created later, as Cargo Polska appeared on the freight market. "But this is a complex and lengthy process. In addition, we need rolling stock: wagons and locomotives. I must admit that this is a matter of many years," he emphasized.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, in October the number of railway tickets on the popular Kharkiv-Przemyśl route will double. The updated flight will be launched after repairs at the Przemyśl station.
