Legendary footballer who scored 13 goals in one World Cup passed away

The legendary French national team and Reims striker Just Fontaine died in Toulouse on Wednesday, March 1. The top scorer of the 1958 FIFA World Cup died at the age of 89.

This was reported by the Europe 1 news agency. The cause of death and its circumstances are unknown. Fontaine played 21 matches for his country's national team, scoring 30 goals. At the 58th FIFA World Cup, he set the scoring record for a World Cup, scoring 13 times. In the match for third place in the tournament, Fontaine scored a poker-trick against West Germany.

At the club level, Fontaine won the French championship four times with Nice and Reims, and the French Cup twice. He was also a finalist in the European Champions Cup.

After his career, the legendary footballer coached Paris Saint-Germain, Toulouse, as well as the French and Moroccan national teams.
