How to revitalize an old carpet: the pile will rise and look like it just came from the store
If the carpet in your home looks dirty and untidy, and the pile has long been worn out, don't rush to buy a new one. A few life hacks will help you improve the look of your old carpet and raise the pile.
Experts shared effective ways to update the carpet. The details were provided by the Express.
Carpets get dirty and lose their softness over time. Before you start cleaning, vacuum the carpet thoroughly.
Over time, even fluffy carpets can lose their elasticity, but they can be renewed with a simple life hack. Johanna Konstantinou, a flooring expert, said that baking soda and white vinegar will help.
Pour baking soda on the carpet and rub it into the fibers with a brush for a while. It is better to leave the baking soda on overnight for the active ingredients to work. Then remove the baking soda with a vacuum cleaner. Pour cold water into a spray bottle and add an equal amount of white vinegar. Spray the mixture onto the carpet.
Rub it into the fibers again with a stiff brush to get rid of any odors and reduce bacteria.
Johanna advises to soak the stains from drinks or dirt with a special solution. It is very simple to prepare: add a quarter teaspoon of white vinegar to a liter of water.
"Never rub the stain, as this will cause it to move into the carpet fibers and you risk permanently damaging it. For stubborn stains such as blood, coffee, and wine, use a spoonful of ammonia mixed with 0.5 liters of water or use an ammonia-based detergent," Konstantinou emphasized.
Before using, experts advise testing the cleaner on a small area of the carpet to make sure it does not damage or discolor the material. Avoid using hot water, as it can make stains worse.
