Once most of the stain has been washed out, blot the remaining area with a paper towel to absorb the rest. Avoid rubbing the stain under any circumstances.

Apply baking soda paste

Regular baking soda is effective on blood stains. Mix it with water to create a paste, such as 2 tablespoons of baking soda to 1 spoon of water, and apply it to the stain. Gently rub it in with your fingers or a soft brush. Let the paste dry on the fabric to absorb the residue. Afterward, rinse off the baking soda and machine wash the item.

Strengthen the soda with peroxide

If the baking soda paste proves insufficient, you can enhance its effectiveness with hydrogen peroxide. However, this method is more suitable for light fabrics, as it may discolor darker ones. Soak the stain in cold water once again, treat it with a cotton pad soaked in peroxide, and for added assurance, wipe the stained area with a drop of dishwashing liquid before applying the soda paste.

Baking soda and vinegar for fleecy fabrics

For blood stains on fleecy fabrics, including carpets, combining baking soda with vinegar works well. Begin by rinsing the stain with cold water, then apply a paste of baking soda and sprinkle it with white vinegar. The two substances will react, forming an active foam that effectively removes dirt from the fabric.
