How to clean blinds: the simplest method available to everyone

Cleaning window blinds can be a challenging task because, to thoroughly remove all the dirt, you typically need to take them down, dry them, and then rehang them. However, the internet has showcased a life hack for maintaining blinds that keeps them cleaner for longer, reducing the need for washing.

This tip was shared on TikTok by a cleaning and housekeeping expert using the username @shellslittlehome. Her life hack was described as both extremely simple and ingenious. (To watch the video, scroll down to the end of the news story)

She suggested using an old sock as a tool for collecting dust from the blind slats. You need to put the sock on your hand, dampen it with water, and then, by grasping each slat, clean it from dust. When the sock becomes very dirty, you can remove and rinse it or replace it. In just a matter of minutes, the blinds will be completely clean.

The advantage of this method is that you don't need to close the blinds. When you move the slats to a vertical position, even more dust can fall off them.

If you regularly clean the blinds in this way, you will only need to wash them 2-3 times a year. This makes their maintenance much more manageable and efficient, preventing them from spoiling the look of the room with a stale appearance.
