How to clean a fabric sofa: a home trick

A vacuum cleaner and a steam cleaner are devices that will help in caring for the sofa

The sofa is the center of attraction of any interior. It's where people take a nap when they have a minute, have dinner while watching TV shows, drink wine with friends, and play with children and pets. It is not surprising that the upholstery of this piece of furniture quickly becomes stained.

It can be difficult to deal with these stains if the sofa is covered with fabric. However, experts recommend performing preventive cleaning from time to time to keep it looking and feeling hygienic for as long as possible. OBOZREVATEL has collected some life hacks on how to do it more efficiently.

Vacuum the sofa regularly

During use, the sofa, like other pieces of furniture, gets dusty. Crumbs and other small debris also accumulate in its crevices. Therefore, the sofa needs to be cleaned regularly. To do this, it is best to use a special nozzle for upholstered furniture. Particular attention is advised to be paid to the gaps between the cushions, the bend between the back and seat, and the edges of the sofa. If your sofa has wooden legs or a frame, wipe them with a damp cloth to remove dust.

Remove stains properly

Dry cleaning won't get rid of stains. You will have to deal with them separately. Always use dry cloths or paper towels to pick up wet dirt as soon as it gets on the upholstery. Wash the stain with a solution of detergent and water. If you are not sure which product is best for cleaning the upholstery, consult the sofa care label or the manufacturer.

Before applying the cleaning solution, test the sofa in an inconspicuous area to make sure it does not damage or discolor the fabric. If there are no problems, dampen the upholstery with the detergent solution and gently rub the stain from the edges to the center. After treatment, use another damp cloth to remove any remaining detergent.

If the stain is stubborn, you can use a solution of white vinegar and water in equal parts to remove it. Mix the solution in a spray bottle and spray it on the stain. Leave it on for a few minutes to work, and gently blot the stain with a clean, damp cloth. Repeat the procedure as many times as necessary to remove any vinegar residue from the upholstery.

You can also machine wash the sofa cover if you can remove it. In this case, choose a delicate program and a low water temperature, and use the product according to the upholstery care instructions.

Use the power of steam

A steam cleaner is another good way to clean your sofa. Steam allows you to push dust and dirt out of the upholstery, destroys stains well, and refreshes and disinfects the fabric. Before using the device, make sure the sofa is free of dust and crumbs. Then use the steamer to clean the fabric in the direction of the fibers. After treatment, let the sofa dry completely before using it again.
