Mykola Yaremchuk, a silver medallist at the 2016 Ukrainian Junior Karate Championships, from Chernivtsi, was killed in action near Kramatorsk. From the age of 6, Mykola successfully competed in kumite in the 60 kg and 67 kg categories. He was a candidate for master of sports

Mykola's sporting career was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, during which he focused on coaching young athletes at a club and graduated with a bachelor's degree in physical education from Chernivtsi National University.

After the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, he volunteered for the frontline in November last year after his older brother. He commanded a platoon in the 80th Air Assault Brigade. His call sign was "Yarem".

"On 12 February at 5:06 a.m., I remember the message like it's now: "I'm going to the battlefield. There will be no connection, keep your fingers crossed for me, everything will be fine. I'll write when I get there". And that message, as it was written, made my heart beat. I wrote and wrote to him like that, and then I got a call: "There is no Mykosia," Suspilne quoted Mykola's brother Pavlo Yaremchuk as saying.

On February 17, Mykola Yaremchuk was buried at his family's home in Chernivtsi. He was 22 years old.
