FIFA World Cup 2030: Russia calls to forget about Ukraine

Vyacheslav Koloskov, Honorary President of the Russian Football Union (RFU), has called Ukraine redundant in the joint bid with Spain and Portugal to host the 2023 World Cup. In addition, he expressed confidence that the Iberians do not need any partners at all to try to win the right to organise the World Cup.

Koloskov said this in an interview with the propaganda TV channel Match TV. He called media reports that Ukraine would be replaced by Morocco in the World Cup bid strange. The functionary recalled that Spain and Portugal had already qualified for the 2018 tournament, but then it was won by Russia.

"Let's forget about Ukraine in this context. As for Spain and Portugal, at one time they competed with Russia for the 2018 World Cup, they had a great, strong bid. I don't know what they were hoping for, they failed in the first round, but the bid was strong. That's why I don't understand at all why they need a third country, in this case Morocco. From the point of view of football development in the country, this will probably be a plus, but in this case, there are many other problems, primarily logistical ones," Koloskov said.

It should be noted that a potential bid from Morocco, Spain and Portugal is considered a possible winner. It will compete with two collective bids from Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay and Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Greece. The host of the 2030 World Cup will be determined next year.
