It should be added that during a conversation with the commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Mykola Oleshchuk, the mother of a fighter pilot "Juice", asked him to do one thing.

"Promise me that I will fly the first F-16 instead of my son," the woman said.

Oleshchuk, for his part, undertook to fulfil the request of the hero's mother.

The pilot will be buried at Askold's grave, Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat said at the funeral ceremony.

On 25 August, a well-known Ukrainian pilot, Andriy Pilshchikov, with the call sign 'Juice', died in a crash. It was caused by a collision between L-39 combat trainer aircraft over the Zhytomyr region, and two other pilots died along with 'Juice'.

Pilshchikov was a pilot of a MiG-29 fighter jet. With the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, he defended Ukraine's skies. He took part in the air defence of Kyiv.

He was repeatedly interviewed by leading Western media, including The Washington Post, Financial Times CNN, Fox News and BBC News. In them, he urged the allies to start supplying American F-16 fighter jets and explained in detail how they would affect the advantage of Ukrainian troops over the enemy.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, in the Podil district of the capital, people have made a memorial to Andriy 'Juice' Pilshchikov, who died in a plane crash on 25 August, near the mural 'The Ghost of Kyiv'. Citizens left a photo of the Ukrainian pilot there and bring flowers, toys, and light candles.
