Eyebrow waxing or plucking: experts put the debate to rest

Makeup artists call eyebrows the foundation of the face. With well-shaped eyebrows and clear skin, you can go without makeup. It's enough to look well-groomed and fresh. But what is the best way to take care of your eyebrows?

Removing any facial hair is a delicate matter because the skin here is especially delicate and easily injured. The List calls plucking and waxing the two most popular methods of eyebrow shape care. It also lists the advantages and disadvantages of each of them, and the opinion of the interviewed experts who named the best.

Waxing

This method is considered very convenient because it removes excess hairs quickly and with the root. The skin remains smooth for longer and therefore the hairs do not get knocked out of the eyebrow formed in this way for a long time. There are products for waxing eyebrows that can be used at home. This procedure can also be performed in a salon along with other facial treatments. It is quite common and inexpensive.

However, waxing can be quite painful. This method also carries the risk of ingrown hairs and irritation of delicate skin. In order to wax, the hairs must grow to a certain length, otherwise the wax will not capture them. So, for the next procedure, you will have to wait until they reappear and become long enough.

Plucking with tweezers

Instead, tweezers can grab even the shortest hairs, and you don't need anything but a high-quality tool to take care of your eyebrows this way. This method is also completely safe and convenient for home use. The procedure can be performed whenever the need arises.

As for the disadvantages of using tweezers, this procedure can take much longer than waxing because the hairs are removed one by one. Also, tweezers can tear off the hair, leaving the root inside. And painful sensations... you can't get away from this either.

What do professionals advise?

The professionals interviewed by the publication were on the side of plucking. Thus, Michelle Wu, a brow technician at an eyebrow care salon, says that this is the way to form more defined eyebrows because the removal is done one hair by one, which reduces the risk of capturing excess. In turn, makeup artist and eyebrow expert Ramy Gafni considers waxing too aggressive a procedure for the extremely thin skin under the eyebrows. He recommends leaving it for other areas of the face. Gafni also agrees that those who prefer plucking are less likely to spoil the shape of the eyebrow.

Eyebrow guru Anastasia Soare, who works with stars like Hailee Steinfeld and Selena Gomez, agrees with her colleagues. She also considers plucking an easy-to-use method. Soare advises drawing the desired shape and simply removing all the excess hairs around it. She recommends using a regular mirror, not a magnifying mirror, to control the process more accurately.
