Payments of UAH 30 thousand to the military may be returned soon

Members of the Verkhovna Rada voted to return UAH 30,000 in additional payments to the military. The same payments are to be returned to employees of the State Emergency Service and police officers. However, for the change to take effect, it is likely that the state budget will also have to be amended.

The relevant amendment is contained in the draft law No. 8312, which was adopted in the second reading on April 10 by 277 votes. The amendment itself was voted for by 254 MPs.

It is expected that the surcharges will be in effect until the end of the martial law period. The document states that:

  • For the period of martial law, military personnel, privates and officers of the civil protection service, and police officers shall be paid an additional remuneration of UAH 30,000 per month, regardless of the tasks assigned to such persons or the areas of service.
  • For such persons who are directly involved in hostilities or ensure the implementation of measures to ensure national security and defence, repulse and deter armed aggression, being directly in the areas of their conduct (implementation), in particular on the territory of Ukraine temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation, in the territory between the positions of the defence forces and the positions of the troops of the aggressor state, during the implementation of these measures (in particular, conscripts), the amount of this additional remuneration is paid in the amount of UAH 30 thousand, regardless of the tasks assigned or the areas of service.

However, the initiative of the deputies may not be implemented yet. Yaroslav Zheleznyak, deputy chairman of the Tax Committee, warned of this.

"We need to pay attention to the amendment itself. In short, it returns the allowance to defenders by saving on reduced salaries for civil servants and management of state-owned enterprises (up to 10 minimum wages). The main thing here is that the return of the allowances will work: most likely, the budget will need to be changed; limiting salaries to 10 minimum wages is a very small saving. Even 2% of the planned expenditures will not be enough. We spent UAH 2.7 billion a day on payments to the military," the MP said.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, payments of UAH 100,000 have been made to the military on the front line, and UAH 30,000 to soldiers who are near the front line, at checkpoints or on combat duty. However, in February 2023, the number of recipients of the UAH 30,000 supplement was reduced. In particular, these payments were stopped for soldiers in the rear and those who serve close to the front line, but not on the very first line or "zero".
