Affordable alternative to Ford SUVs from China revealed in photo

China is preparing an affordable alternative to the Ford Bronco SUV. The new Fang Cheng Bao Leopard 5 PHEV was shown in photos during road tests before its premiere.

Chinese automakers always wait for the next step in global design to replicate it. The Fang Cheng Bao Leopard 5 PHEV is no exception. The SUV is made in a brutal retro style, which has been brought back into fashion by the most famous automakers. The novelty is reported by CarNewsChina.

The Chinese car received a simple shape with large geometric elements on the body. A spare tire is installed on the trunk lid at the back. In general, the model looks like any other Western SUV that the Chinese are trying to copy.

This is a plug-in hybrid vehicle. Thus, apart from the engine and electric motor, the Leopard 5 PHEV will get a battery that can be charged from the external grid. The combined range (gasoline + electric) is expected to be 1200 km.

The declared power of the hybrid powertrain is 544 hp. It will allow to accelerate to 100 km/h in 4 seconds. The official premiere will take place before the end of summer 2023. The novelty will be produced at the BYD facilities.
