Psychotherapist Jeff Gunter from Portland revealed five relationship problems that are almost "impossible" to solve. He also explained why they can lead to the destruction of your physical and emotional connection.

Gunter recently posted a video on his TikTok page, in which he warned his followers who are in a relationship with their significant other. The video has already been viewed by about 500 thousand people. The psychotherapist explained why it is difficult to survive such difficulties as betrayal, recurring arguments, and the need for independence.

The therapist began by pointing out that the little things matter in a relationship, and when a partner refuses to make an effort, the couple tends to break up. "Over time, if you stop showing affection, such as complimenting each other, flirting, or spending time together, it's like you've become just roommates," he explained. According to him, this creates distance between partners.

Disputes that keep recurring

The expert added that even small quarrels can eventually push a couple to the brink. "Frequent unresolved disputes, when the same problems reappear without any resolution, lead to deep resentment and emotional exhaustion," he continued.

Partners grow apart

An expert says that no one is to blame.

The third problem that couples sometimes face is often unavoidable, the therapist noted. "Sometimes partners simply grow apart, and this leads to unexpected shifts in the relationship," he said. This happens when the halves develop as separate individuals, which causes a change in interests.

Jeff went on to say that the "desire for independence" often leads one partner to permanently break up with the other. "Sometimes a partner craves freedom outside of a relationship. It's often not about cheating, but about a personal journey of self-discovery," he said. "A partner who wants independence may still love their significant other, but this need often leads to a breakup.

Sympathy for the other person

The psychotherapist continued that another big issue is feelings for someone else. "Developing feelings for someone outside of the current relationship usually signals unmet emotional needs. It is perceived as a betrayal and undermines trust, breaking the emotional connection," he explained.
