A powerful fire broke out in Sochi near the airport; an explosion was heard, black smoke was billowing. Video

On the morning of Wednesday, September 20, a large-scale fire broke out in Sochi (Krasnodar, Russian Federation) near the international airport and the Rosneft gas station, where a fuel tank engulfed in flames. Propagandists are already claiming that the facility could have been "attacked by a drone."

Earlier, residents reported a loud explosion. Russian Telegram channels wrote about the incident, publishing footage from the scene (to see photos and videos, scroll down to the end of the news).

According to them, the explosion occurred around 05:15 near the civilian airport. It is located in the Adler resort area, 28 km from the center of Sochi.

After the explosion, high flames rose over the city, and thick black smoke billowed into the sky. Propagandists said it was a fuel tank on fire.

Subsequently, other resources reported that the fire in the Adler district had engulfed a tank with 1,200 tons of kerosene. They also stated that the incident could have been "the result of a drone attack."

Citing residents, the propagandists noted that a loud explosion occurred there at around five in the morning. Russian emergency responders arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire covering an area of about 100 square meters, assuring that "there is no threat of fire spread."

ASTRA, a resource of independent Russian journalists, clarified that the explosion hit a tanker near the Rosneft gas station on Aviatsionnaya Street.

The governor of Krasnodar Veniamin Kondratiev confirmed that a tank with diesel fuel caught fire in the Adler district of Sochi on Wednesday morning. The area of the fire reached 96 square meters.

The official said that there were no casualties and no threat of fire spread. He added that more than 60 people and 15 pieces of equipment were working at the scene, and the causes of the accident are being investigated.
