The Georgian-Ukrainian midfielder of Kharkiv's Metalist 1925, Beka Vachiberadze, who played in the Georgian championship in the spring, said that the vast majority of local residents support Ukraine in the war with Russia. The 26-year-old native of Kutaisi once played for the Ukrainian youth football team.

"In Georgia, 95 per cent of people support Ukraine in its war for independence and are very worried about us," Tribuna.com quoted Beka as saying.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Beka has been called up to the Ukrainian youth national teams of all ages since 2011. Since 2015, he has been called up to the youth national team of Ukraine, where he also served as team captain.

On the eve of the match against the Georgian youth team, he received a call from the Georgian side, but then decided that he would play for the Ukrainian youth team.

In November 2017, he received Georgian football citizenship. The reason for this, according to the player himself, was that "there was a lot of politics in Ukrainian football", and Beka also said that he had made this decision a long time ago.
