He was called the little prince of haute couture and a genius of his time. Thanks to his courage to go beyond traditional design, Yves Saint Laurent took over the House of Dior at the age of 21. He created a lot of bright and unrivaled things that are still relevant during his career that lasted more than half a century,

Thanks to Yves, our closets are filled with pantsuits, boots, double-breasted jackets and other items that were previously impossible to imagine on girls. Read more in OBOZREVATEL material.

1. Trapeze dress

Women mostly wore fitted dresses in the style of new-look in the 1950s, which was once invented by French fashion designer Christian Dior. This was changed by Yves Saint Laurent. He created midi dresses of free trapezoidal cut (A-line). This model visually reduces the waist, outlines the lush hips and balances the silhouette, diverting attention from the abdominal area.

2. Sheer blouse

Couturier sometimes resorted to extremely bold experiments with clothes. One of his ideas that was "born" in the 1960s but is still relevant today is the transparent blouse. It is povocative, piquant and fashionable. According to the fashion rebel's idea, it should be worn without underwear. However, we recommend wearing a flesh-colored top or bra.

3. Women's pantsuit

Yves Saint Laurent redefined the strict men's suit and introduced the first women's tuxedo in 1962. Earlier, the legendary French couturier Coco Chanel had inspired women to wear pants, but it was Yves who changed the shape of the jacket to a more fitted silhouette that emphasized the figure favorably. He recommended wearing the set together with a transparent blouse.

4. Safari-style clothing

A linen long jacket, a cotton jacket with a belt, a shirt, a jumpsuit or a dress in sand color or all shades of khaki are the characteristic features of Yves Saint Laurent's summer collections. Here you can add leopard print. Fashion-revolutionary made these things symbols of luxury and refinement back in 1966.

5. Trench coat

Waterproof long coats were invented by fashion designer Thomas Burberry back in 1914, but they were designed exclusively for men. Yves adapted this item to the ladies' silhouette in 1962. By the way, the lacquered trench coat is also his idea.
