What the side-eyeing Chloe, a girl from a popular meme, looks like now and how her viral facial expression saved her entire family. Photo
American girl Chloe Clem became a meme only at the age of 2. The "side-eyeing Chloe" with her viral facial expression quickly took over the Internet, and at some point became a real salvation for her family.
As People notes, she recently celebrated her 14th birthday. The appearance of the young favorite of millions around the world has changed noticeably, so it is difficult to recognize the little girl who sat in the car seat with a rather judgmental grimace.
The iconic photo, which eventually dubbed "side-eyeing Chloe" meme, is a screenshot of one of the videos on Chloe Clem's family's YouTube channel that was taken in 2013. Back then, the mom of the internet celebrity decided to capture her two daughters' reaction to an unexpected surprise: instead of going to school, they were going on vacation to Disneyland. Chloe's older sister Lily cried with happiness when she heard the news, but she herself showed quite the opposite emotions, reminiscent of discontent, but not at all joy. Some people attribute such a reaction of the girl to the fact that she is a Sagittarius, as representatives of this zodiac sign are not able to hide sincere feelings.
According to the girls' mom, she first made the video public on her Facebook page, but, following requests from friends, eventually shared it on her YouTube channel as well. This decision changed the family's life dramatically, as Chloe's recognizability allowed them to secure deals with corporate giants like Google Pixel.
"10 years ago, we were so poor. This happened to us and we're like, 'What? We can pay bills. We can upgrade our tiny apartment for the four of us.' It was real-world issues. That money literally helped us survive for a decade. Every ounce of the money, aside from saving it and putting it away, was helping us get through our life. Rent, bills, food," the woman shared.
As Chloe Clem's mother noted, the girl's popularity had a noticeable impact on their lives as she began to be recognized in public places. At a certain point, the Internet celebrity even had her own fanbase, and at the peak of her popularity, billboards with the legendary photo hung in the streets of São Paulo.
The family continued to share new videos with fans for a long time, but later their online activities almost stopped. According to Chloe's mother, she began to pay more attention to the privacy of her daughters.
However, Chloe Clem still wants to connect her life with blogging. The girl likes to create her own unique content, so she often turns to her mom for advice.
It is worth noting that in September 2021, the family of Chloe Clem put up the cult meme for auction, which was sold at about 74,000 dollars.
