Sidakdeep Singh Chahal, a 15-year-old boy from Uttar Pradesh, India, has set the world record for the longest hair among teenage boys, having grown strands 146 cm long. He has never been to a hairdresser in his entire life.

This was reported by the official website of the Guinness Book of Records. Sidak washes his hair twice a week, spending at least an hour doing so, along with drying and combing it. "It would take me all day if it wasn't for my mother's help," he says.

Sidak grows his hair because he is a Sikh. One of the main principles of this religion is to never cut your hair because it is a gift from God. He usually ties his strands in a bun and covers them with a dastar (turban), as is customary for Sikhs. Sidak's family and many of his friends are Sikhs, but none of them have hair as long as his.

"Many of my relatives were shocked to see how long it was," he admits. When Sidak told them that his hair had set a world record, some of them didn't believe him: "They thought I was tricking them, and it took a little bit of proof to convince them," he says.

In an interview with the ANI news agency, Chahal shared how he decided to keep his long hair and the difficulties he faced on the way to this achievement, including bullying from his friends, India Today reports. "My friends used to make fun of me when I dried my hair. They called me a girl. But I was never offended. I took it as motivation. Now my friends are happy for me," he recalls.

Sidak told himself that he would cut his hair when he got older, but now he considers it part of his identity. "I plan to leave my hair uncut for the rest of my life," he says.

When he's not spending hours washing and drying his long locks, he spends his time studying, working out, reading, and playing video games. "Believe it or not, my whole personality is not based on my hair," he jokes.

Sidak is "thrilled" to have set a world record and to be included in the 2024 Guinness Book of World Records. "I was over the moon when I found out I was going to be included in the book," he says.

The length of the longest hair among teenagers (girls and boys) was 2 meters. The record belonged to Nilansha Patel from India. She held this title from 2018 to 2021 and broke her own record three times during this period. The initial length of her hair in 2018 was 170.5 cm, then 190 cm on September 22, 2019, and 200 cm in 2021.

The girl has been growing her hair since she was six years old because of a bad haircut at the hairdresser's: "I got my hair cut and it was a very bad hairstyle. Then I decided that I would not cut my hair," she explained. In 2021, after her 18th birthday, Nilanshi finally cut off her long locks, donating her hair to the Guinness World Records Museum.

Currently, there is no holder of the longest hair record - Sidak is ready to receive this title when he turns 18, if no one else claims the title.

The longest hair in history belonged to Swami Pandarasannadhi, the head of the Tirudaduthurai Monastery in Madras, India, whose hair was reported to be 7.9 meters in 1949, but the veracity of this claim cannot be verified.
