Hollywood actor Viggo Mortensen, best known for his role as Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings, took part in the Mykolaychuk OPEN film festival. He arrived in Chernivtsi wearing a T-shirt with a trident and a Ukrainian flag badge on his jacket.

The three-time Oscar nominee presented his new film The Dead Don't Hurt at the Ukrainian film festival. This was the main event of the first day of the festival, writes Shpalta.

Viggo Mortensen took part in Mykolaychuk OPEN as part of his European tour in support of the western film The dead don't hurt. In the new film about the tragic fate of immigrants, the American actor of Danish descent not only played the male lead, but also directed and wrote the film.

At the presentation of the western in Chernivtsi, Viggo Mortensen, who has been supporting Ukraine and helping Ukrainians abroad since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, said that it is important for him to have a conscious position. "I did not do anything unusual, I was just not indifferent. It is a great honor for me to hear the words of gratitude from Ukrainians and to be at this festival," said the famous actor in Chernivtsi.

Mortensen also emphasized that when he was invited to come to Ukraine for Mykolaychuk OPEN, he immediately agreed, even though his family was concerned about his decision. "Only my family knew. My girlfriend was worried, but I assured her that everything would be fine. When I send her photos from here, I think she will finally calm down," the star actor emphasized.

Viggo Mortensen also said that he is a fan of both Ukraine and its cinema. After watching the movie Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors, starring the symbol of the Chernivtsi festival Ivan Mykolaychuk, the Hollywood actor was impressed by how fantastically Ukrainian artists conveyed the atmosphere of the Carpathian nature.
