"They're fighting for our freedom": U2's Bono calls on the US to help Ukraine at a concert in Las Vegas
The legendary Irish rock band U2 gave a concert in Las Vegas, USA. The band's frontman Bono, who has been actively supporting Ukraine in the war against Russia since the first days of the full-scale invasion, addressed the audience and the US authorities with a call to "give Ukrainians everything they need."
Bono reminded that very soon, on February 24, 2024, the full-scale terrorist war in Ukraine will be two years old. The rocker noted that today Ukrainians are fighting for the freedom of the whole world, and if we stop helping, Russia's aggression will take over the next countries. The corresponding video from the concert was posted on the Telegram channel of the United 24 fundraising platform.
On stage, Bono said: "America, you are so generous! But let's give these people everything they need. Because they are fighting for our freedom, not just theirs. Next week it will be two years since Putin invaded Ukraine in an attempt to destroy the hard-won freedom of 41 million people. Poland, Lithuania, and East Germany may be next. Who knows where this man can go next. Or not go," Bono said.
The rocker added that the Ukrainian people are fighting for their freedom and basic right to exist at great cost, and urged not to hesitate to support them.
"For these people, 'freedom' is not just a word from a song. For these people, 'freedom' is the most important word in the world. So important that Ukrainians are fighting and dying for it," the musician added.
As a reminder, in early May 2022, the legendary rock band came to Kyiv to support Ukrainians in the war against Russia. The musicians performed for the residents of the capital right in the subway at Khreshchatyk station.
After the impromptu concert, Bono visited the dilapidated Bucha. There, the artist met with the rector of the Church of St. Andrew the Apostle, who told him about the atrocities of the Russian occupiers in the city.
As OBOZ.UA previously wrote, Bono wrote a poem dedicated to St. Patrick's Day, in which he called Putin a psychopath and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a saint. The author's work was read by a speaker at the annual Friends of Ireland luncheon in the Capitol.
