The 18-year-old Ukrainian singer YAKTAK has become the number one singer on the Spotify music platform. Three songs of the young artist hit the top 15 Ukrainian tracks of 2023.

The young man's real name is Yaroslav Karpuk. This year, the singer tore up the Ukrainian charts with his hits, despite the fact that his solo project appeared only in February 2022. Some hits were not created in the studio

Yaroslav recorded his songs "Silhouette" and "You Dance Alone" in a hotel room."I'm often on tour, on the road, and I need to make new music, so Ihave to come up with something," he admits.

What's behind the pseudonym

YAKTAK is not just a pseudonym, it hides the artist's initials."Many people ask why YAKTAK. It's simple, it's a part of my first and last name. There is another meaning, but only the team knows it, it's our little secret," Yaroslav said.

YAKTAK could have become a football player

At a certain period of his life, the singer had a choice: music or football. Now it's obvious that he made the right decision.

The dream of Eurovision

Since childhood, the young man has dreamed of representing Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest."Ialways watched the Euros as a kid and imagined myself there. Idreamed that someday I would represent Ukraine with dignity and strength," he recalls.

This year, YAKTAK became one of the finalists of the National Selection for Eurovision 2024. He will compete for the right to represent Ukraine at the contest in Sweden.

"When I see our flag flying high and the anthem playing at such contests, major competitions or Olympics, I always get goosebumps and feel proud to be a Ukrainian, so Eurovision and especially how our country will be represented there is a really important topic for me! ... I will do my best to perform well," the singer said.

Gratitude to his parents

The artist recently released a new track in which he showed archival photos and videos with his parents for the first time. In the song, YAKTAK expresses his gratitude to those who taught him to dream, not to give up, and always move forward. He thanks his parents for all their support and encouragement, recalls the warm moments of his childhood when they were always there for him.
