The court sentenced Ostap Stupka following the drunken traffic accident in Kyiv: both the actor and the prosecutor's office are not satisfied, preparing appeals

Ostap Stupka was sentenced

The Holosiivskyi District Court of Kyiv has found Ukrainian actor Ostap Stupka guilty in the case of a drunken car accident on April 4 in the capital. He was sentenced to a 3-year prison term, which neither the actor nor the prosecution agreed with.

The star will also be charged about 10 thousand hryvnias, which were spent on examinations, and his driver's license will be taken away for 8 years. This was reported by Suspilne correspondents. OBOZ.UA was informed that the prosecutor's office is preparing to appeal the decision.

The actor is obliged to report to special institutions to perform community service for three years, the publication writes. The verdict will come into force in a month, and until then, Stupka will be subject to a measure of restraint: nightly house arrest from 00:00 to 05:00 in the morning.

The culprit of the accident considers the decision unfair. The star's lawyers are preparing an appeal.

"I agree with my defense lawyer that this is a rather unfair decision. There are many mitigating circumstances. We could have settled for a fine, which would have been more appropriate and fairer for the state because the amount is not small. The minimum is 170 thousand hryvnias. The fate of the seized property has not been decided either," the actor said.

As a reminder, at the last hearing, Stupka was charged with violating traffic safety rules while intoxicated, which caused serious bodily harm to the victim. Prosecutors in court asked for a sentence of three years in prison.

As OBOZ.UA has learned, the prosecutor's office also plans to appeal the court's decision.

"The court passed a verdict: it found him guilty, sentencing him to 3 years of restraint of liberty with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for 8 years. The prosecutor's office will appeal this decision because we asked for a real punishment in the form of imprisonment. We do not agree and will appeal," the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office told OBOZ.UA.

The victim, named Yaroslav, who was hospitalized after the accident, said that he spent three days unconscious in intensive care, underwent surgery, and continues to undergo treatment. According to the driver of the Mitsubishi that the actor's Range Rover hit, he saw the culprit only a few times.

The accident occurred on Fedorov Street in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv. Investigators found that Stupka drove into the oncoming lane and crashed into a parked car driven by a 38-year-old driver.

He then said that he did not consider himself a criminal, calling it a pure accident. Moreover, according to the celebrity, this incident was sent to him by fate or "a father from heaven."

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, the Ivan Franko National Academic Theater publicly reacted to the accident. They believe that the accident is not a reason to fire the actor. Stupka himself has recently confidently stated that he is thankful to God that "everyone is alive and well," and that this story is supposed to end soon.
