Taylor Swift is named Time's Person of the Year: the singer's competitors were Barbie and Putin

World-famous American singer Taylor Swift has been named Time magazine's Person of the Year. She was chosen from among nine contenders, including the Barbie doll and Russian President-dictator Vladimir Putin.

On Wednesday, December 6, it became known that the winner of 11 Grammy Awards had won. Time published a cover with the singer.

It is believed that one of the reasons why Swift won the title of "Person of the Year 2023" is her contribution to the US economy. The singer's Eras Tour brought her $1 billion - a record for any tour - and may have boosted the American economy as a whole by $4.6 billion.

In addition, Taylor Swift became the most listened-to artist on Spotify in 2023. Her songs gained 26.1 billion plays.

Other contenders for the title included OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, King Charles III of Great Britain, Chinese President Xi Jinping, US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, Donald Trump's prosecutors, the Barbie doll from the movie of the same name, Hollywood strikers, and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin.

Last year, Time's Person of the Year was Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The "spirit of Ukraine" also won in the nomination.
