Spent more on a dog than on a maid: the richest family in the UK is caught up in a high-profile scandal. The case is already in court

The richest family in the UK is caught in a high-profile scandal

New details have emerged about the scandal involving the richest family in the UK, which was convicted of exploiting its staff the day before. It turns out that the family members spent more money on their dog than they paid their employees. The case is currently being investigated by a Swiss court.

According to prosecutor Yves Bertossa, the billionaire paid one employee less than $8 (about 310 hryvnias) for a work shift that lasted as long as 18 hours. Bertossa pointed to a document titled "Pets," which, according to him, demonstrates that the family spent $9,632 (about 390 thousand hryvnias) a year on their pet. This was reported by the Daily Mail.

The prosecutor said that the family exploited domestic staff and restricted their freedom, citing testimony from workers as well as evidence provided during his investigation. The lawsuit was filed against four family members, businessman Prakash Hinduja, his wife Kamal, their son Ajay and his wife Namrata, whose lawyers said they pleaded not guilty.

The family members are estimated to be worth $47 billion. They face human trafficking charges that center on allegations that they smuggled employees in and out of Switzerland after their passports were confiscated.

Workers were also not allowed to leave their employer's house without permission and were paid in Indian currency, with no Swiss francs available at the time, which limited freedom in the country.
