Singer-fan of Farion saw "cultural degradation of Ukrainians" in the National Selection: he himself previously collaborated with Dolina and Povalii

People's Artist of Ukraine Anatolii Matviichuk, who is currently in the United States with his "Sing in your native language" art tour, criticized the National Selection for Eurovision 2024 and saw "cultural degradation of Ukrainians" in the show. He did not like the performances of the artists, including the winners of the contest, alyona alyona and Jerry Heil.

The singer, who a few months ago called linguist Iryna Farion a "powerful and extraordinary personality," expressed his opinion on Facebook. He characterized this year's selection as "a kind of average 'European party' with funny and extravagant characters."

The star thought it was strange that Ukrainians were organizing such entertainment events during the war. Anatolii Matviichuk also had questions about the contestants' vocals and repertoire.

"So, the composition of this newly formed duo looked like a certain construct of the famous Dr. Victor Frankenstein - a combination of a touching melody of chants, a strange text about Mother Teresa and the Virgin Mary walking on a blade, and incredibly fast-paced machine gun rap, which is difficult to perceive verbally. Although, I think that each of the performers of this artificial duo would be entitled to their own aesthetics. But not together," the artist said about the song of the National Selection winners.

In addition, the performer was outraged by the creative pseudonyms of the stars. For example, the singer does not understand why Alyona Savranenko took the stage name alyona alyona, not Olena.

"How, for example, can I explain to Ukrainians what the Russian form of the name 'Alyona-Alyona' has to do with it, and why Yana Shemaieva from Vasylkiv has such a strange pseudonym, Jerry Heil," added Anatolii Matviichuk.

Finally, he summarized that the potpourri of Volodymyr Ivasiuk's legendary songs that were shown in the final of the National Selection is a demonstration of "the cultural degradation of Ukrainians and the loss of the most valuable thing we had until recent years."

As you know, Anatoliy Matviychuk wrote scripts for concerts and TV programs, poems, songs, and poetic texts for many performers popular throughout the post-Soviet space, including Sofiia Rotaru, Valerii Leontiev, Larysa Dolina, Taisiia Povalii, Iryna Bilyk, and others. Some of them are now working for Russia.

In November 2023, when society was stirred up by Iryna Farion's scandalous statements that led to her dismissal from Lviv Polytechnic National University, Anatolii Matviichuk defended her in his "thoughts" for Glavkom.

"Yes, she chose the most emotional, brutal style from all the tools at her disposal - the style of an angry, ruthless and sharp-tongued mob that does not choose words, but snatches them out of its consciousness, as if from the raging mouth of a volcano. And what is she saying wrong?" the singer wrote.
