Scandalous French director Gaspar Noé, whose film banned in Russia, spotted in the capital: how Ukrainians reacted

Gaspar Noé disappointed Ukrainians

French film director and screenwriter Gaspar Noé, who became famous in 2002 after the release of the movie Irréversible with Monica Bellucci and Vincent Cassel, came to Moscow. The Frenchman visited a number of clubs and took photos with Russian fans on Red Square.

The Russian media is boasting hard because another world star has appreciated the country's terrorism. The photos appeared on propaganda channels.

According to the Russians, the Frenchman came at the invitation of a local magazine. He took part in a social event and walked around scandalous nightclubs. While Noé was having fun with the Russians, Ukraine was under fire once again.

"Despite global sanctions, celebrities keep coming to Russia. As we hardly cooled down after Kanye West's arrival, a much bigger figure visited Moscow - Gaspar Noé", "We continue to change the country's cultural field and show the country's openness to the world," Russians rejoice at the arrival of the controversial director.

Gaspar Noé has made less than 10 feature films, but he has become famous for his unconventional approach to the plot and scenes of sex and violence that are too explicit for many. For example, his erotic 3D drama Love received controversial reviews, and viewers walked out of theaters during the screening of Irréversible.

The last movie Noé directed was Vortex in 2021. Since then, his career has been put on hold, and the director himself has almost disappeared from social media. There is no information about the war in Ukraine in his profile.

Arthouse Traffic, a Ukrainian film distributor and film company, responded to Noé's visit to Moscow. They emphasized that such films as Love and Climax no longer exist for them. The United 24 platform also did not ignore the Frenchman's visit to Russia.

It is noteworthy that some Ukrainians were not surprised by the star's position, while others were openly upset.

"It is absolutely logical that the director of such films decided to go to a terrorist country. I'm not saying that the films are bad, but the level of violence in them corresponds to his desire to visit one big swamp. It is very natural in this case", "What a disgrace! I thought he was the best director of our time", "I never liked him. He is outrageous for the sake of outrageousness," they wrote online.

Interestingly, in 2015, Gaspard came to Kyiv to present his film Love. What is even more ironic is that Russia and Belarus banned it.
