Russians unveil monument to director of "Love in Russian" film in occupied Kherson region

The Russian Military History Society has unveiled a monument to actor and director Yevgeny Matveyev in the temporarily occupied Kherson region. The invaders placed the monument in the village of Novoukrainka, Skadovsk district, where the film director was born in 1922.

Despite the fact that Matveyev was born in Ukraine, he was never considered a Ukrainian filmmaker. This is confirmed by the propagandists themselves, who in the news about the opening of the monument present the filmmaker as "a favourite of many generations of Russians".

The Russians decided to unveil the monument to Matveyev in the occupied village, allegedly for the benefit of the locals, who "remember and are very proud of their countryman". The most interesting thing is that, according to his biography, the director lived in Novoukrainka only until the age of four.

The unveiling of the monument, next to which hostile Russian tricolours were placed, was attended by the deputy head of the RMHS Nikolay Ovsienko and the deputy head of the Kherson region's "government" Sergey Cherevko. The collaborator even wore a T-shirt with the letter Z on it.

The propaganda media write: "Yevgeny Matveyev is remembered and loved by many generations of Russians for his unforgettable roles in films, especially Love in Russian"

The RMHS said that in 2023 they are going to open several more memorials in the occupied Ukrainian regions, in particular in the so-called L/DPR, as well as in Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. The monument to Matveyev was the first such object this year, and thanks to the work of Ukrainian defenders, it will be the last.

Earlier, OBOZREVATEL reported that a monument to Russian Lieutenant General Roman Kutuzov was unveiled in the temporarily occupied Mariupol. He commanded the DPR army corps and took part in the capture of the city in 2022. Read more in our article.
