Russian showman decided to renounce his citizenship: he explained how Russia is preventing him from doing so

Famous Russian blogger and showman Alexander Shpak, who is followed by millions of people, said he wants to renounce his citizenship. He went on the air with another man who had been trying to do so for almost a year and explained how Russia was obstructing the process of changing his passport.

As it turned out, Shpak has many administrative offenses, and Russians are outraged by his pro-Ukrainian stance, so he cannot and does not want to return to his homeland. The blogger wrote about this on Instagram.

He is sure that if there was an opportunity to quickly renounce citizenship in Russia, at least 5 million people would do so. However, according to the showman, such a procedure does not work now.

To give up a Russian passport, citizens need to personally come to some departments, fill out forms, confirm their identity, get a lot of papers and prove that they have no debts. It is not possible to do this remotely.

However, as the man noted live, few Russians who emigrated have the desire and ability to return. Mostly because of their anti-war stance or the presence of a draft notice to the occupiers' army.

"People who have left the country cannot renounce their citizenship because the package of documents that was introduced is unrealistic. There are two documents that cannot be obtained in any way except in person. You can get these papers through the website of the State Services, but it is blocked in other countries. And this is not a problem of countries, this is how Russia protects itself,"  the man explained.

Alexander Shpak, who faced the same problem, decided to popularize this issue so that the petition would be considered at the global level and measures would be taken to simplify the procedure for the deprivation of Russian citizenship.

As OBOZ.UA wrote, Shpak said he was sorry for his long silence and inaction until February 24, 2022. After emigrating from Russia, he assured that he would never return there and did not consider himself a Russian.
