Prince Harry loses High Court case over his safety in the UK: what's the story

The High Court has rejected Prince Harry's claim to change the level of security for his visits to the UK. However, the son of King Charles will appeal, as he was deprived of police protection after he ceased to be a royal.

Judge Sir Peter Lane explained his decision, explaining that the reduction in Prince Harry's security was legal. This was reported by Metro.

"Even if there were procedural unfairness, the court would not be able to grant the plaintiff [Prince Harry] relief in any event," Lane emphasized. The closed court session was held without the press due to the reading of confidential testimony on security measures.

Case details

Last year, the prince filed a legal application for permission to make private payments for police protection during his visit to the UK, but it was rejected. A preliminary hearing held in December addressed his concerns about deteriorating security after Harry ceased to be a member of the royal family.

The prince said his children cannot "feel at home" in the UK because of security measures. The lawyers argued that the failure to conduct a risk analysis meant that the approach to his defense was "illegal and unfair."
