On Sunday, October 8, the legendary Ukrainian singer Nina Matvienko passed away. The People's Artist of Ukraine was 75 years old.

The tragic news was announced by her daughter, singer Tonia Matvienko, on her personal Facebook page. The cause of death is not specified.

"Mom died," Antonina wrote briefly under the photo of the Ukrainian musical legend.

Nina died two days short of her birthday. She would have turned 76 on October 10.

The singer was born in the village of Nedilyshche, Zhytomyr region. She became an Honored Artist in 1979 and a People's Artist of Ukraine in 1985. In 1988, she was awarded the Taras Shevchenko National Prize, while in 2006, she was awarded the most honorable title of our country, the Hero of Ukraine.
