People's Artist of Ukraine Hryhorii Shumeiko dies: he played more than 100 roles in theater and cinema

Today, on September 3, People's Artist of Ukraine Hryhorii Shumeiko passed away at the age of 74. The talented actor left a mark on the culture of his homeland by playing more than 100 roles in both theater and cinema.

The tragic news was announced by representatives of the Maria Zankovetska Theatre on their official Facebook page. During his life, the man managed to stageabout 20 performances in his native city.

"Irreparable loss in our team... Today, at the age of 74, People's Artist of Ukraine, actor, director, and resident of Zinkiv, Hryhorii Shumeiko, passed away. The theater staff expresses sincere condolences to the actor's family. We are mourning," the publication said.

Hryhorii Shumeiko was born in Poltava region on May 1, 1951 into an ordinary family. From a young age, he sought to connect his life with culture, so he received an acting education at the Kyiv National I. K. Karpenko-Kary Theatre. Later, the artist decided to expand his knowledge by graduating from the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute with a degree in directing.

In addition, Hryhorii Shumeiko was awarded the Order of Merit III degree and the Award of the Ministry of Culture "For Achievements in the Development of Culture and Art".

Some of the artist's latest and most popular roles were: prince in Mykyta Kozhumiak, Potiomkin in Christmas Eve and the 1st guard in Cassandra. He became the main actor in the movie Marina and Oleksii.
