Money will be used to rebuild cities: Ukrainians to auction Lady Di's necklace she wore before her death

The late Princess Diana's magnificent Swan Lake necklace, which she wore before her death, is to be auctioned in New York. It is known that since 2008 it has belonged to a family of Ukrainians. They want to donate part of the proceeds to charity, namely the restoration of Ukrainian cities affected by Russian terrorism.

The British tabloid Daily Mail suggests that the price could reach between $5 million and $15 million (UAH 185 million to 554 million). Interestingly, this is the only piece of Lady Di's jewellery that was not inherited by her sons but was sold (to see the photo, scroll to the bottom of the page).

The necklace contains 178 diamonds and 5 pearls. The name "Swan Lake" was not given to it by chance. The princess wore the necklace for the last time at the Swan Lake gala at the Royal Albert Hall in June 1997.

It was her last official appearance before her death. Lady Di's jewellery was presented to her by her lover, Dodi al-Fayed, so she had no relation to the royal family.

After its last appearance, the necklace was given to jewellers to make earrings for it. However, Diana died before the work was finished. The whole set will be sold.

In 2008, a family from Ukraine took ownership of the jewellery, but the war forced them to sell Swan Lake. The journalists claim that part of the money will be donated to rebuild Ukrainian cities.
