"Mom, I'm letting go, die": Nina Matviienko's priest son tells about her last day of life

Nina Matviienko's priest son tells about her last day of life

The eldest son of the legendary Ukrainian singer Nina Matviienko, who passed away a year ago due to cancer, clergyman Ivan Honchar, spoke about the last day of his mother's life. The man recalled that when he came to visit the artist in the hospital, he had a prophetic dream.

The icon painter spoke about this on the talk show "The Whole Country Speaks." He noted that since childhood, Nina Mytrofanivna spent a lot of time with her descendants, and when Ivan chose to serve God, she supported him.

"Before my mother died, my brother and I came to receive the Holy Communion. I said: "Mom, I'm letting go, die." I also had a dream that was so special that I woke up. I woke up as if the lights were on. Someone came into the house, and I felt someone standing next to me and started talking to me: "Look how beautiful the house is." I turned around and saw it was my mom. At that moment I woke up, but with such joy. I can't even say that it was a dream, it was so vivid," said the artist's eldest son.

According to Ivan Honchar, he still has the feeling that his mother just went on tour. The man admits that although they have seen Nina Matviienko off on her last journey, it seems as if she is still with them.

The legendary singer raised three heirs: the priest Ivan, the artist Andrii, and the singer Tonia, who followed in her mother's footsteps. Nina Mytrofanivna herself grew up in a large family with 10 other children.

The singer's youngest brother, Volodymyr, came to the hospital to be with her sister, who could no longer speak. It turned out that their meeting was the last one because the star passed away.

"I arrived with my wife, she held out her hand to me, and I took it. There was no need to talk. We just looked at each other and understood each other. I told her to forgive me for being angry with her sometimes, for not coming to visit, and for not communicating. Then she said goodbye to us, she just said goodbye. She understood it all. There was no need to talk. I remember what she said when she was still talking: "I want to wait for the victory, our victory," the man recalled.

As a reminder, the heart of the "flower-soul" Nina Matviienko stopped beating on October 8, 2023. The artist passed away two days before her birthday: On October 10, she would have turned 76.
