MELOVIN explains why he does not condemn Russian-speaking Ukrainians: I am a Russianized Odessan

MELOVIN speaks out about Ukrainians who still speak Russian

The famous Ukrainian singer MELOVIN, who will compete for the right to represent our country at the Eurovision Song Contest this year, has frankly admitted that he does not condemn Ukrainians who have not yet switched to the Ukrainian language, but he does not share their position either. This is especially true of media personalities, such as blogger Anna Alkhim, who continues to communicate with hundreds of thousands of her followers in Russian. Konstantin Bocharov (the musician's real name) grew up in a Russian-speaking environment in Odesa, but after the full-scale invasion, he had no question: "Should I give up the language of the enemy or not?" He immediately chose the path of Ukrainization both in public and creative spheres, as well as in everyday life.

MELOVIN is convinced that everyone must understand the importance of this step on their own. He shared his thoughts on this issue in a commentary to the star columnist Bohdan Bespalov in cooperation with OBOZ.UA. Bespalov posted the video on his YouTube channel of the same name.

The interviewer asked the celebrity: "How do you feel about controversial stars like Anya Alkhim?"

MELOVIN replied: "I think everyone decides for themselves how to live and what to listen to, what basic moral and ethical things to live with. For me, it's not okay. Not okay at all. For me, it was okay to switch to Ukrainian and realize that I was a Russified Odessan like all Odessans."

The singer assures that he would never bully his compatriots for their language, looking for "treason" in someone. He believes that everyone must first "kill the betrayal in themselves."

"I'm not going to bully people for their language, I'm not one of those who will shout: "Why not the state language?" This is your business. The most important thing for me is for people to realize that they need to start with themselves. Not to look for "what's in the swamps? What's someone else's?" But to start with yourself: not to look for betrayal somewhere, but to find betrayal in yourself. Because it is with us that this chaos, which is actually quite understandable, begins," the artist commented.

As a reminder, Alkhim called residents of the western regions of Ukraine "corrupt cocks" and later caused a scandal over the state language. She called Ukrainian-speaking people "Nazis" and said that Ukrainian is spoken only in Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk.

As OBOZ.UA wrote, Alkhim continues to listen to and promote Russian music. In particular, she is an ardent fan of the traitorous singer Anna Asti, who was granted Russian citizenship after the full-scale invasion. However, this obviously does not bother the blogger.
