Living in the here and now: the secret of longevity of legendary producer Norman Lear, who passed away at the age of 101, has been revealed

The secret of longevity of Norman Lear, the legendary producer who lived to the age of 101, is revealed

On December 6, 101-year-old American screenwriter and producer Norman Lear passed away. He was known as an innovator in the second half of the last century, in particular for his series The Jeffersons and All in the Family.

During his career, Lear had written more than a hundred works. The Up Worthy publication told us about the secret of the longevity of the legendary creator and winner of six Emmy Awards.

Speaking with journalist Steve Lopez a few years ago, the producer gave advice on how to live a rich life. Retelling the same story, Lopez shared, "He said that life is a small gap between what's over and what's coming next. What happened yesterday is over."

Lear's main concern was work, constant movement and the search for future opportunities. He maintained an active lifestyle that allowed him to work until the end.

Lear shared his perspective on this question in 2020 when the producer was 98. While younger interviewers and journalists speculated about his retirement, Lear was running around, working as hard as he could. When asked if he had ever thought about ending his career, Lear replied, "Not for a second!"

He was more concerned with living in the moment and focusing on finding something to do so that he didn't waste a single second of life, even at such an advanced age. "When I go to bed in the evening, I have something I think about. Among other things, it's about what I'm going to do tomorrow... Today is over, and we move on to the next day," Lear explained in his interview.

"Lear said that he was certainly grateful for all the accolades and awards, but he wasn't as focused on the past as he was on what was in front of him now," Lopez added. He recalled that Lear advocated the idea of lifelong learning, regardless of a person's age.
