Head of Muslim community in Tatarstan teaches men to beat their women on TV
In Tatarstan, a video of Hazrat Timur Kamaev, the head of a Muslim community, teaching men to beat their wives was shown on television. In response to the hate speech, the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) called for "watching the podcast in its entirety." However, this did not change the meaning of the imam's words.
According to media reports, he was asked to explain the Qur'an passage about beating women. The imam interpreted this as the need to punish wives whose behavior seems wrong to their husbands.
According to the newly minted "TV star," women first need to be told that they are "doing something wrong." The next step is to "share the bed". This is how the Koran teaches to punish wives for not pleasing their husbands.
As the imam explained, when sleeping in different beds does not force a woman to submit to her husband's will, physical punishment is used, which is not intended to leave bruises or injuries. In particular, Kamaev advised using a miswak - a toothbrush - or elbow.
Physical punishment is a humiliating way to force wives to do what their husbands want. The head of the Muslim community popularizes this idea, saying that it is a good thing for a woman to forgive violence.
"If a wife forgives, it will be a blessing for her. If the family remains together, if they continue to have a good life in the family, then it will be the best way for her to forgive her husband and continue to live a good life. If this continues on a regular basis, then [you should] go to a hazrat. If your husband is constantly beating you, then this is not normal," the religious "expert" said.
Tatarstan's SAM only advised outraged viewers to watch the full version of the podcast and not to tolerate domestic violence, but to contact the police or other spiritual advisors.
