French chanson and singer of the legendary hit "Snows of Kilimanjaro" Pascal Danel dies

French singer Pascal Danel dies at the age of 81

French singer Pascal Danel, the singer of the 1960s hit "Snows of Kilimanjaro," has died at the age of 80. According to the star's agent, Christian Jaume, he passed away in a hospital last night.

The news of Danel's death was confirmed by his son Jean-Pierre, adding that his father "underwent surgery and a heart attack." This was reported by Le Monde.

The singer, born in 1944, began his singing career as a guitarist and vocalist in a rock band. The songwriter created his first hit "La plage aux romantiques" in 1966, which became successful not only in Europe but also in Brazil, Canada, and Japan.

In 1966, Danel recorded "The Snows of Kilimanjaro," his biggest hit. The song was translated into six languages and sold over 25 million copies. The composition, based on Hemingway's story, was used in Robert Hediguan's movie, to which it gave its title. Thanks to his success, Pascal Danel continued to tour, perform at the Olympia and appear on television.

In the late 60s, the chanson met Laurent Woolsey, who became his conductor and arranger. "He played at balls. I met him at a concert and asked him to be my guitarist. He arranged my albums and became my conductor. We got along very well," Pascal Danel said in an interview with Le Parisien in 2015.
